For Lakeland businesses, commercial water removal requires a variety of equipment and training.

Commercial Water Removal Operations For Lakeland Businesses

We are well into storm season, and Lakeland businesses are already preparing for the worst, as they do every year. Most water damage to area commercial and residential structures, however, comes from smaller incidents like a failing fire suppression system or a broken connection on an inlet pipe.

For Lakeland businesses, commercial water removal requires a variety of equipment and training. SERVPRO technicians train extensively to pull water off floors. Before they pull the first machine out of the van, the team leader performs a quick, visual inspection after turning off or blocking the water source. The check provides him with the information he needs to prioritize the work, and also to prepare an estimation of time and effort needed, along with the cost, for the owner.

With that done, our teams start removal operations. For water higher than ankle-deep, technicians begin with a commercial grade pump. In a light-industry operation, like a machine shop, the open floor can be extensive. Depending on the total area involved, finishing the task may take up to two days.

After drawing off most of the water, or when the level is only about an inch high or lower, restoration teams switch to extraction wands. The speed and vacuum strength of these devices are adjustable, and they work well on concrete and wood floors. Several types also contain a heating element, so technicians can also begin the drying process for the floors as well.

In areas underneath large, immovable equipment or bolted down work benches, SERVPRO team members use long-handled squeegees to push and pull water out. To eliminate the last traces of water here and in other parts of the facility, technicians set up air movers to force warm, dry air along the floor to speed up evaporation.

As the water turns to vapor, team members use exhaust fans at the doors and windows to catch it and force it out of the building. The reduced humidity helps speed up the overall drying operations and lowers the risk of mold spores expanding and growing into a problem.

The goal for SERVPRO of Bartow / Lakeland Highlands technicians is to reopen each business to begin operations. As a locally owned operation, we understand the need to make payroll as well as turn out a product for customers. If you need our assistance, call our office at (863) 510-5962 today. We are here to help.
