Highland City's Water Damage Deodorization Methods
A variety of deodorization methods can be used to restore your home after water damage
Whenever water leaks into your Highland City home, the first goal is to remove all moisture as quickly as possible. As water sits indoors, much damage gets caused as time goes on. Moisture can ruin the structural integrity of building materials inside your house. If water gets left inside for more than 48 hours, mold growth can occur.
After all of the moisture gets extracted and dried out inside a structure, sometimes foul, mildew-like odors exist. SERVPRO's water damage technicians in Highland City have experience using different deodorization methods for buildings affected by moisture. The first step to any deodorization process is to remove the source of the foul odors.
When unpleasant aromas still exist after all moisture gets removed, there are a few different ways that we move forward with the deodorization process. Some chemicals and methods cause chemical reactions with the malodor particles causing them to neutralize. Other methods use better-smelling aromas to mask the unpleasant ones.
In some cases, where it is impractical to pull back the carpet to get to the padding or backing we use injection deodorization methods. Some types of deodorization chemicals get injected into carpet or upholstery using a syringe and needle or a pump and injection needle. In most water damage scenarios, disinfectant chemicals get sprayed onto the affected area using hand or pump sprayers.
In other more extreme scenarios, deodorization chemicals get dispersed using an ultra-low volume or ULV fogger. Wet foggers break down water-based and solvent-based deodorants into tiny particles. The tiny particles then penetrate materials removing the unpleasant odors.
To keep excess chemicals from creating more problems inside the home, we often use ventilation box fans to ventilate the building. The box fans usually get set up before and after deodorization occurs to force air flow through a structure. Sometimes air scrubbers get set up that suck air into a HEPA filter before exhausting it back into the environment. Odor and chemical particles get trapped inside the HEPA filter removing them from the air.
Sometimes foul odors have multiple sources, so we use a combination of deodorization methods to remove them. If you ever need help with deodorization, call SERVPRO of Bartow / Lakeland Highlands at (863) 510-5962 24/7.
